MY STORY
How it started

Growing up in a quiet town of Hamrun, Lawrence Zrinzo found his love for manga at just 10 years old. Self-taught and fuelled by passion, he dedicated countless hours to perfecting his craft. Despite challenges, his talent garnered local recognition, opening doors to collaborations and mentorship. Now an established manga artist, Lawrence's journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion and perseverance, turning childhood dreams into a vibrant reality.

When I think of ZRINZ, I think of watercolour. And it's probably our mutual love for the medium that first made us notice each other. I had come across his work on my first couple of visits to Malta for the comic book convention they hold there every year, but it wasn't until I had started playing around with watercolours myself that I really noticed his work and realised that he was up to something. It soon became evident to me that he knew his business and he knew his tools. I don't think I know anyone that has experimented as much with different brushes, watercolour brands and techniques as Lawrence has, introducing as many tools as necessary to make the piece in question pop and work visually. As much as I cannot possibly read his mind, I think that for him the way in which he makes the illustration is just as important as the illustration itself. It's all about the process and that definitely shows through in his work. He is a traditional-media man. He loves his paper and he loves his brushes and I don't see him swapping them for a Cintiq anytime soon. And he'll be right in not doing so. This book, therefore, is for all of us that love art made slowly and carefully, paying attention to every subtlety in a superhero's facial expression or painstakingly rendering the armour of an anime character or a supervillain. This book is about Pop Culture and about following one's dream as a kid. This book is the result of over a decade of work, of trial and error, of experimentation, of successes and rejections, of loving the industry and of hating the industry. Ultimately, however, it's a book about passion and about the love of beautiful things, a category where the artbook itself surely falls in. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I know I will."
